Background

The Clean Development Mechanism-CDM aims to implement additional emission reduction projects in non-Annex I countries through the sale of Certified Emission Reduction Units (CERs). Within the ASEAN region, some countries already have experience in developing CDM policies, setting up institutional arrangements and implementing CDM procedures. However, local capacity and experience is limited in other countries. Within the region, the exchange of experience and co-ordination can be improved.
